Voice data is transcribed, and the audio is promptly deleted once processed. Transcripts are stored for 90 days for quality improvement and safety verification, after which they are automatically deleted. We are transparent about this, and parents can request immediate deletion through the app.
Curio toys will only listen when intentionally turned on by the user.
The toys are turned on either when the power button is held, or when the toy is shaken sufficiently. The toy will then produce an audible "ding" noise to alert users that it is on and listening. This mode is called "listening mode".
In "listening mode", the device will automatically listen and respond after a user pauses talking.
The toy will exit "listening mode" when the user either verbally requests the toy to "turn off", holds the power button, or leaves the toy for inactive for 10 minutes.
Turn off confirmation is heard through an audible powering down sound. After the power down sound, the device in now in "off mode" and is no longer listening.
Additionally, a parent may monitor the toy's mode through the Curio app.

Troubleshooting steps:
- Verify bluetooth permissions are enabled for the Curio mobile app
- If the toy is already set up, make sure you are currently logged in with the same email address you enrolled the toy with. Once a toy has been enrolled into an account, it needs to be removed from that account before another account can claim it.
- If the toy was purchased second hand, or received as a gift from someone else, make sure the original deletes the toy from their account by tapping the gear icon “settings” on the device, and then tapping “Delete Toy” and following the on-screen instructions.
- Still having trouble, reach out to Curio customer support through the Contact Us page, and we will be happy to assist in getting the device connected.
Start by turning on your device.
Then, check the led on your device:
- If it is solid green, hold the ‘-’ button until the light starts flashing blue. This will put the device into bluetooth pairing mode.
- If it is flashing blue, you are already in bluetooth pairing mode.
- If it is another color, wait for a minute before it turns to either green or flashing blue.
While in bluetooth pairing mode, open the Curio App
Tap the gear icon ‘settings’ on the device you’d like to connect.
Tap the ‘Connect to Wi-Fi’ option in the device settings page and follow the instructions.
